The Langston Hughes Project - Ask Your Mama: Twelve Moods for Jazz, a masterwork written in twelve-parts by Hughes in the early 1960s. This production is brought to life in a multimedia production is Langston Hughes at his best: insightful, wise, poignant, funny and soulful. On stage the audience experiences the mood of the Harlem Renaissance in this 800-line suite of poems illustrated by the spoken word, accompanied the Ron McCurdy Quartet and Hughes’ poetry performed by Emmy-nominated actor and director Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

The work is described as a multimedia performance involving spoken word artist, jazz quartet and a slide presentation of images from the Harlem Renaissance. All of these components occur simultaneously. This multimedia presentation recreates Hughes's vision of the global struggle for freedom in the early 1960's. African American artists and photographers including Jacob Lawrence, Gordon Parks, and Romare Bearden link words and music to a kaleidoscopic collection of images. Music director and composer Ron McCurdy orchestrates the original musical based on the music cues suggested by Langston Hughes.

6th Annual delancyhill Black History Month Celebration

On Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at its annual celebration for Black History Month, host delancyhill P.A., in collaboration with the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and the law firm of SquiresBenson will host a reception in honor of attorney Cheryl Little for her unwavering advocacy on behalf of Haitian refugees and other immigrants from the African Diaspora. The reception will host clients, firm partners, and community leaders from 6:30-8:30PM at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables, FL 33156.

This commemorative 6th year celebration of Black History Month inspired the law firm of delancyhill, P.A. to create the award of Firm Partner Star, previously offered to Ruth Shack, Dorothy Jenkins-Fields, David Wilson, Babacar M’Bow. and Commissioner Betty T. Ferguson for their ''contributions in uplifting African-American communities of the South Florida''.

This year, Honoree, Cheryl Little, has been a tireless advocate for immigrant rights for nearly two decades and has established herself as one of this country's leading experts in the immigration field. Cheryl's extensive involvement in immigration dates from 1985 when, upon her graduation from law school with honors, she began working at the Haitian Refugee Center. Since 1996, she has served as the Executive Director of Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, Inc. (FIAC), an agency she co-founded.  After years of unwavering advocacy, Ms. Little led efforts to secure Temporary Protected Status ("TPS") for Haitian nationals after a series of natural disasters culminating with the tragic earthquake.

In light of the tragic catastrophe in Haiti, the Reception will also raise funds in support of local organizations serving the needs of the impacted Haitian community.   Suggested minimum contribution will be $25.00.
